Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions •

  • If you’re an existing client, you can schedule your sessions anytime via our online booking portal HERE.

If you’re new to the practice, we invite you to submit an enquiry first HERE. This allows us to ensure we’re the right fit for your needs and provides time to complete any required intake forms before accessing the booking system.

Once we receive your enquiry, we’ll be in touch promptly to guide you through the next steps and make the process seamless and straightforward.

  • Your first session is simply a starting point - an opportunity to meet your psychologist, talk about what’s been going on, gather some background information and explore what kind of support would feel most helpful.

There’s no expectation to have everything sorted or clearly defined. We move at your pace.

For adults and adolescents, the session typically involves meeting one-on-one with the person attending. Parents/support people may be included where appropriate or helpful. For children under 12, it can be beneficial for parents or caregivers to attend an initial appointment either on their own/with the child. This helps us gather relevant background information, understand the main concerns, and thoughtfully plan therapy in a way that feels safe and supportive for the child.

The first appointment is also an important opportunity for you to get a sense of whether the psychologist feels like the right fit. A strong therapeutic relationship is super important for therapy, so it’s completely okay to take time to see if you feel comfortable and understood.

  • We understand that life can be unpredictable, and sometimes you may need to cancel or reschedule a session. We ask for more than 48 hours’ notice to cancel without charge. If a session is cancelled or rescheduled between 24–48 hours, a 50% fee applies, and cancellations within 24 hours incur the full session fee.

These policies help us maintain a sustainable practice so we can continue providing high-quality, individualized care to all our clients

  • We have 2 report options available, either a Comprehensive Diagnostic Report or Results Letter.

The Comprehensive Diagnostic Report is an in-depth document that offers a detailed analysis of your assessment, including diagnostic conclusions, strengths, challenges, and tailored recommendations. This report is often used for accessing support services, educational accommodations, or specialist referrals.

The Results Letter is a shorter summary highlighting the main outcomes of the assessment. It provides clear information about your diagnosis and recommendations but with less detail than the full report. This option is suitable if you prefer a straightforward overview or if a full report is not required for your purposes.

Both options include a 50-minute feedback session where we discuss your results and next steps.

  • Your privacy is very important to us. What you share in therapy stays between you and your psychologist, creating a safe space for honest conversations.

However, there are rare exceptions where confidentiality may need to be broken. Your psychologist may be required to breach confidentiality by law or ethical guidelines and share information without your consent, if:

    • there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others

    • there is suspicion of abuse or neglect

    • a court order requires disclosure

If such a situation arises, I will always discuss it with you first (unless doing so would increase risk) and explain what will happen next.

If you have any questions or concerns about confidentiality, please don’t hesitate to ask.

When working with children and adolescents, we balance privacy with parental involvement. Young people are given space to speak openly, while parents are updated on general themes and progress. Any concerns about safety or wellbeing will always be communicated.

  • No, you do not need a referral to begin therapy. You are welcome to contact us directly to schedule a consultation or first session.

However, if you would like to claim a Medicare rebate, you will need a valid referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP prior to your first session. We recommend booking an appointment with your GP to arrange this before commencing therapy.

    • Please see our fees to determine specified medicare rebates and out-of-pocket expenses.

    Private Health

    • Many private health insurance plans offer rebates for psychology sessions under allied health benefits. Rebates vary depending on your policy, so it's advisable to check with your provider directly.

We understand that there may be times you may choose to access a Telehealth therapy session instead of attending the practice in person. This can be due to convenience, preference, illness or being located remotely or outside of Adelaide.

These are online sessions conducted via video or phone conferencing. Please let us know in advance if you would like your session held via Telehealth so that we can ensure this runs as seamless as possible.
